SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

  With the exception of the conjoint meeting with the New York Surgical Society, all meetings are held at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia on the first Monday of each month from October through May.  The evening begins with a social hour at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.  The Scientific Program follows a brief business meeting at 7:15 p.m.

2006/2007 

October 23, 2006: "New Frontiers in Thoracic Aortic Surgery", Joseph Lombardi, M.D, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. 

 

November 13, 2006: Family Night at the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery: "Hidden Treasures of The Mutter Museum". A special guided tour of the Mutter Museum and presention of rare artifacts by the staff of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.

 

December 4, 2006: Rhoads Oration: "Does Resident Education Need Major Surgery?", delivered by Richard Bell, M.D., Assistant Executive Director, American Board of Surgery. 

 

January 8, 2007: Erb Lecture: "Improving Patient Safety with Tools from Fighter Aviation", delivered by James M. McGreevy, M.D. and Pat Wade, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT; USAF Reserves.

 

February 5, 2007: Residents Paper Competition.

 

March 5, 2007: "Update on Esophageal Cancer Surgery", Mark Krasna, M.D., Medical Director of the Cancer Institute, St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson, MD.

 

April, 18, 2007:  Conjoint Meeting with New York Surgical Society at The New York Academy of Medicine, New York, NY. 

 

May 7, 2007: Conjoint Meeting with the Philadelphia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons:  Speaker: TBA
